We have had over 25 years of experience assisting clients with their legal issues and with mediations to resolve disputes. Lyn Lucas initially trained as a mediator 20 years ago. In October 2014 Lyn visited the USA to participate in specialised training in Elder Mediation – North America and Canada are way ahead in dealing with ageing issues. Lyn is now one of a handful of Elder Mediators in Australia who has undergone this specialised training. The training was intensive, and has opened Lyn’s eyes to the shortcomings of some of our ageing systems, including the prevention of elder abuse – and she is motivated to promote change.
Lyn has always had an interest in helping ageing clients to keep their affairs in order, to plan for the future – and so keep in control of matters as they age. She realises how vital this planning is as often she is confronted with family problems that are much more difficult to resolve because the initial planning has not been implemented. Lyn now considers herself as an ageing Australian, and with experience in caring for an ageing parent, she understands the many issues involved.
We, as Australians, shy away from discussing these issues with our families, which on many occasions results in families being unprepared to make vital decisions when emergencies arise. How much easier it is, and less stressful, for families who have had “the Conversation” with their parents, and are aware of their wishes at these times, and can take action accordingly.
Elder mediation is a wonderful tool to get the family together to discuss their parents’ wishes, and how best they can be met as they age.
